Windy Miller
It cleared today and we had a sunny day on the beach but yesterday we felt the biting chill of the February winds. We wrapped up and still managed a few sandcastles. The satellite dish on the far right of an image shows the impact of the salty spray but who needs Sky Sports ! The surf has been up with some spectacular waves crashing over the breakwater. Needless to say we ended up in the pub to get warm and drink Tinners Ale, eat crisps and play dollies.
Gurnard
Ugly Betty always passed by on the fishmonger's slab but it its cheap and meaty white flesh makes the best fried fish morsels. This dude was £3. It takes a while to fillet as the skin is tough and the spines and spikes are tricky. If preparing food is therapy though this rewards the intrepid. Maybe that is the problem with fish ; if one does not have the time then why bother ? I rolled the fillets in seasoned flour and dropped it in groundnut oil. The sardines were less successful.

Longships

The oft heard and ghostly fog horn which is sounded every ten seconds comes from this memorable landmark. Not today though as the view past Longships from Maen Cliff included a glimpse of the Isles of Scilly. One can only imagine the chaos caused by these rocks and the confluence of different bodies of water before the erection of the lighthouse in 1790. John Ruskin's painting suggests the, 'entire disorder of the surges.' On calm days of soft light the rocks suggest thoughts of the lost land of Lyonesse and the ghosts of the many seafarers who have foundered upon its pinnacles.
